About Lori
Lori Kolesnik, MA, CCC
Canadian Certified Counsellor
Individual and Couples Therapist
I have a Master's Degree in Counselling and national certification as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), granted by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
I have a rich background of over 25 years in counselling, educational settings and therapy. My years of experience with individuals, couples and youth give me the practical skills to build effective solution-focused treatment plans.
My goal is to come alongside individuals, couples and families to create the conditions for healing, growth and resilience. I use an integrative approach that is strength-based and person-centered.
It is my belief that any situation is best addressed in a spirit of empathetic, non-judgmental collaboration.
I welcome you to incorporate any spiritual or existential concerns into the therapeutic process.
Additional Training:
EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing: EMDR is a cutting edge therapy that is one of the most well-researched and empirically supported therapies for treating trauma. EMDR is a technique that can benefit many people to overcome the lasting and troubling affects of trauma. It is also proving very effective in the treatment of addiction, as well as other counselling concerns.
Emotionally Focused Therapy: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a result of the research and work of Canadian psychologist, Dr Susan Johnson. Her work has revolutionized the way couples' therapy has been approached in the past two decades. Based on sound research on attachment theory together with research on how intimate partnerships actually work, EFT therapy works to first de-escalate and then identify the negative cycles of disconnection in which many couples feel trapped. Then, couples can work toward reconnection and better communication. This is a relatively short term therapy of approximately 8-20 sessions.
The Gottman Method: John and Julie Gottman have also done extensive research in the area of intimate partnerships to develop a very effective and targeted approach to couples' work. The Gottman Method offers an extensive 'Relationship Check-up' and then targeted strategies to address your unique relationship challenges.
Reality Therapy: Reality therapy is a behaviourally based, short term, solution focused therapy that has many applications. It is targeted and short term in approach.
I enjoy working with adults, seniors, youth and couples.
Individuals:
I have a wealth of experience working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, loss, living with chronic pain, emotional distress, relationship issues and major life transitions.
Couples:
I have training in both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method for couples. Both are well researched, evidence based approaches to couples counselling.
Parents:
My extensive training and experience in Reality Therapy allows me to work effectively with parents to create a customized solution-based approach that uncovers strengths and addresses parenting challenges.
